Dear Parent/Carer,
As I’m sure you are aware, Year 7 exams will be taking place from 15th May. To help your children prepare for their Maths exams, I am sending a list of topics covered this year to use as a guide for them to focus their revision. Students will sit two assessments – one non-calculator and one calculator – and exams will be taken in their normal classrooms.

NUMBER

 Place Value and rounding
 Calculations (+/-/x/÷) including the order of operations (BIDMAS)
 Factors, Multiples, HCF, LCM, Prime factorisation
 Fractions, decimals, and percentages
 Proportion and converting units
 Ratio and scale

ALGEBRA

 Writing algebraic expressions, simplifying algebra and collecting like terms
 Expanding and factorising brackets
 Substitution in algebra
 Solving equations
 Sequences and nth term

SHAPE AND SPACE

 Area, perimeter and volume
 Angles
 Transformations on a coordinate grid

Students are able to use the MyMaths (www.mymaths.co.uk) to revisit topic areas covered and work on any homework tasks, whether previously attempted or not, to test their understanding.
Please encourage students to prepare for their assessments and to see their Maths teachers if they have any further questions
about the exams.

Yours sincerely,
Rachael Strong
