This page currently contains students work from School Report News Day 2009. It will be updated with the work from 7KW very soon

Students at Patcham High School are working on the BBC Report Project. Students in 8I will spend a day adding reports to the school website in the same way that reporters might work for the BBC.

The project is a national event with many schools taking part across the country. The students will benefit from a 'real life' experience and this will contribute to their ICT, Media & English at the same time. The 'News Day' will take place on the 26th March 2009 and many articles will get posted throughout the day.

So far, students have been writing practice articles, learning how to phrase their comments and gather evidence, as well as how to use the school website management tools.

The Latest from Patcham High's Busy Newsroom

Its 2pm and we are now filming our live report, we have just watched the other BBC school reports on the lunch time news. Its really good to see other teenagers make the news.

Megan, Ed & Tom are then going to BBC southern Counties with Mrs Taylor to edit the radio broadcast.

Check out the Patcham website at 4pm to see all our hard work.

Ben has just been live on BBC Radio and has been interviewed about the things we have been doing in school. All of the students that were in there at the time were really impressed with the way he had answered the questions-you’re a natural Ben!!

We are now going to do our first video with George and Harry, they will be using the green screen to interview Lewis and Tom about their sweet story that we heard about earlier. The video will be on the website by 4pm. Also Meghan and Katie are now writing up their smoking story. They interviewed some people at break including teachers and students. More news about that later.

Check us out on south today at lunch time.

Teheillah and Emi have gone to interview people around the shops about the credit crunch and what affects it is having on local children this was some of there replies “ well here at fox and sons the start of the credit was a bit of a blip, but things are now picking up”. We also went to the corner shop and interviewed the shop keeper she is not worried as children always find money to buy sweets.

Marcus & Katie  has just gone live on the BBC Radio show where they interviewed the presenter Neil. Marcus had this to say “ It was really fun, and very nerve racking. But it was a great experience.

Mrs Taylor sent us a Text last night, so our parents should all be listening too.

George and Harry were interviewing Tom and Lewis about the interesting find of the American scientist. They also interviewed them about sweets, whether they think they allow people to grow quicker. This story can be heard on BBC southern Counties later.

8I all got to school early this morning and read all the newspapers.

We have had our first meeting at 8:55. We firstly reported back what we thought were the most prominent stories of the day. We all began to vote on the best stories to put in the show, these stories were “The boy with the magic legs and Kids and Sweets”

We are now researching deeper into the stories at this moment and our news mentor Simon Jenkins was broadcasting into the BBC Southern Counties Radio Studio. Marcus and katie are now going live on the BBC southern counties interviewing the presenter!

Our Day at the BBC

On Tuesday afternoon 8I went to the local BBC Southern Counties studios where we were shown around by our news mentor.  It was a really good and entertaining afternoon. First of all we got to go into the radio studio where some of us had the opportunity to host our own show with guests (other Patcham students). We were able to listen back to this and couldn’t believe that our voices sounded so different. Some of us decided there and then that we would really like to work in radio.

We also visited the studio where they film celebrities who can’t make it to London. Last but not least we met some news journalists and had a talk about how the web site is built.

All in all it was an amazing day.

8I Meet a BBC Cameraman

On Monday 8I were visited by BBC camera man, Tim Everest who gave them an inetresting talk about life as a BBC cameraman.

We were really interested to find out if he had met any famous people and Ed asked if anyone had ever thrown anything at Tim, the cameraman. Good one Ed!

We got a lot out of Tim’s visit partly because we were allowed to use the camera and we found out just how difficult it was to speak when there is this camera pointing at you. It’s not as easy as it looks but we got used to it and it was really good fun.
