Planning Application

Patcham High School is one step closer to transforming our sports facilities and sharing them with the local community. Today we have submitted a planning application to Brighton and Hove City Council to build a sports hall and 3G pitch on our playing fields.

The sports hall has been designed to Sport England specifications and will be large enough to accommodate four badminton courts, as well as basketball and volleyball courts. The full-sized 3G pitch will be home to a number of sports, among them football, hockey, and rugby. Both the sports hall and the pitch will be accessible to wheelchair sports. To make way for the sports hall and the 3G pitch the current netball courts and cricket nets will be relocated.

The plans include wooden acoustic screen fencing to provide extra protection from noise for houses nearest the school playing fields. The pitch will be surrounded with an anti-rattle fence to reduce the noise when a ball hits the fence. To minimise any possible light pollution from the eight floodlights which will illuminate the 3G pitch, the school has employed a lighting company which specialises in controlling light spill.

We are confident the development will not lead to any parking problems in nearby streets as the school already has nearly 60 car parking spaces. The new facilities will be open until 9pm weekday evenings and between 8am – 3pm at the weekends.
