Eco Club presents 15 Minute Forum to Patcham Staff

The Patcham Eco Club presented a 15 minute forum to staff via Microsoft Teams after school on Thursday.
The presentation, run by Mia, Ben and LiLy, outlined some goals they hope to achieve in the coming months. They are currently in talks with Mrs Bonner, the School Business Manager and a company that installs solar panels. The hope is to discuss adding solar panels to the roofs of the warmdene building as a renewable energy source.
Another goal of the Eco Club is to establish an eco-garden which will include a compost bin. They are hoping to work with the Canteen Committee to get the canteen staff to use the compost bin daily. They have found a perfect place to put the eco-garden behind the science building.
Furthermore, the Eco Club is pushing to get recycling bins added to all classrooms around the school. There are around 63 classrooms at Patcham High, so research is being focussed on the costs this will entail.
Finally, the Eco Club introduced a new campaign they are calling the ‘Switch Off Lights’ campaign. They have asked Year 7 students to design a graphic that can be added to all classrooms reminding staff to turn off lights when not in use. An application has been started to become an Eco School, a status that Patcham High have previously held and they hope to achieve this by May 2022. They are pleased that they were able to keep students informed about COP26 and managed to take part in the ‘Big Lesson’. We will keep checking in with the Eco Club and congratulate them on their achievements so far.
