Attendance and Wellbeing

Our holistic approach ensures that students receive the support they need to attend, engage, and thrive.

Attendance

All children by law are entitled to receive a “suitable” education. Regular and punctual school attendance is of paramount importance in ensuring that all students have access to the full  curriculum and it is the business of all staff and stakeholders belonging to the school to ensure that every child has the best possible attendance.

Studies show that there is a direct link between attendance and attainment, with students that attend school regularly by far outperforming those that don’t. In addition, good attendance has a strong correlation with good mental health, general well-being and social and emotional development. It also encourages and promotes good habits that will be invaluable to students when they leave us as young adults, ready to make their way independently in the wider community and beyond.

At a Glance Key Information:

  • Absences should be reported to the school every day that the student will be absent.

  • Children will low level illness are expected to attend school.

  • Medical evidence will be requested if the period of absence exceeds three days, or is prior to, or following, a half term break.

  • Punctuality is monitored as part of attendance, and persistence lateness to school could trigger attendance procedures.

  • Requests for leave should be submitted in writing to Kerry Hallett two weeks prior to the first day of the proposed absence. Evidence of mitigating circumstances will be required.
