Pastoral Care
Our pastoral system is designed to nurture the whole child. We know students thrive when they feel safe, valued, and supported.
At Patcham High School, our pastoral system aims to support the personal, social, and emotional development of every student, ensuring they feel safe, valued, and ready to learn. Rooted in our core values of Pride, Respect, and Success, we foster a nurturing environment where positive relationships are central and every student is known as an individual.
We encourage students to take pride in themselves, their behaviour, and their school community; to show respect for others, celebrating diversity and promoting kindness; and to strive for success not only academically but also in their personal growth and well-being.
Through a dedicated network of form tutors, heads of year, and support staff, we offer consistent care, early intervention, and close collaboration with families. By living our values daily, we help students build the confidence, grit and resilience they need to thrive, both at Patcham High and beyond.
Role of the Tutor
The form tutor plays a central role in each student’s daily life at Patcham High School, offering consistent daily support and guidance. As the first point of contact, they build strong relationships, monitor well-being, and help embed our values of Pride, Respect, and Success.
Role of the Head of Year
At Patcham High School, our highly experienced Heads of Year play a key role in supporting both student well-being and academic achievement. Patcham Heads of Year know their year group very well, track progress closely, and provide targeted support to help every student reach their potential. Their expertise ensures a consistent, high-expectation approach that reinforces our values of Pride, Respect, and Success, encouraging students to take ownership of their learning and personal development.
Structure of the Pastoral System
Beyond the form tutors and Heads of Year, Patcham High School has a dedicated team of pastoral support staff, school leaders, and our safeguarding team who play a crucial role in ensuring that every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn. This team works together to identify and respond to more complex needs, offering early intervention, emotional support, and guidance when challenges arise. The safeguarding team ensures that any concerns about student welfare are dealt with swiftly and sensitively, always placing the safety of the child at the center of their work. Through strong communication, professional expertise, and a culture of care, this wider pastoral network helps create a secure environment where all students can thrive.
