Uniform & Equipment

Ready to Learn

At Patcham High we want all students to be Ready to Learn. This means being in correct uniform, with their mobile phone in a Yondr pouch and with a full set of equipment.

Uniform

At Patcham we believe in our motto of ‘One Team, One Dream’ and as such we want students to feel a sense of belonging to our school community. This starts with students wearing our full school uniform. We want our students to develop a sense of Pride in being part of our community and being fully organised and prepared for a day at school. Arriving in a consistent uniform sets a mindset for the rest of the school day in being organised and prepared to learn. It helps students develop a Respect for their role in school as learners and, therefore, support them in achieving Success.

Our aim is to provide an affordable uniform that allows some individuality whilst ensuring students can access their curriculum safely. We do, however, appreciate it represents a cost. All Brighton and Hove Secondary Schools have made the following collective pledge… If you are struggling with the cost of school uniform, we will help. Parents and carers who may have difficulty providing the required uniform should contact their child’s tutor to discuss the issues in confidence and explore the support that the school can provide.

Students who are not in correct uniform will be asked to address the issue and you may be called so that we can open a dialogue to support the removal of any barriers your child and/or family have in providing a full uniform.

Coats can be worn over uniform to and from school but must be removed in classrooms. Students wearing a coat to school should have a school jumper underneath it so as they are warm enough in the school building once the coat is removed. Therefore, a coat is not a replacement for a jumper and an additional jumper or hoodie should not be used as an ‘extra’ layer. In cases where students have access to all the correct uniform items, but choose not to, we will use our sanction system as required.

Please label all items of clothing/equipment with your child’s name so that lost items can be returned.

PHS Uniform

These 5 items must be worn every day

1. School Jumper *

Black jumper with the school logo. They can be either:

Fleece * (£15)

Sweatshirt * (£12)

2. School Polo Shirt *

School blue polo shirt with the school logo * (£9)

3. School Skirt * or School Trousers or School Shorts

Patcham High School tartan skirt *(£24-28)

Plain black formal tailored school trousers (no chinos, no black jeans, no tracksuit trousers)

Plain black formal tailored school shorts (no sports shorts, no cycling shorts)

Students of faith who wish to wear a skirt may wear a loose fitting long black skirt.

4. Footwear

Fully plain black shoes or trainers with black soles and black laces (no crocs)

5. Tights or socks

Socks - Plain black or plain white ankle socks/regular length socks

Plain solid black tights without pattern or plain black leggings can be worn with a skirt.

PHS PE Uniform

These must be brought to school on days students have PE so they can change in school

1. School PE Shirt *

Black Patcham PE Top (£8.75)

2. School PE Bottoms

Plain black sport shorts or plain black tracksuit trousers or plain black sports leggings

3. Footwear

A change of footwear from their school shoes suitable for physical activity. Astro shoes are suggested as they can be used on the field, indoor areas and 3G.

4. 3G Pitch Footwear

Football boots with moulded studs, or astro turf soles

For Swimming Lessons

Swim shorts/trunks or one-piece swim costume (A t-shirt and shorts can also be worn for swimming over the top of a regular costume

Jewellery

Discreet and safe. Must be removable for practical subjects

Piercings

Piercings should be discreet and worn to protect a piercing from closing so studs should be worn as a replacement to any larger piercing (hoops, bars etc) that are worn outside of school.

Make Up

For Health and safety, no acrylic or false nails

Head Scarf

Head scarfs must be either black or navy blue

Alternatively they can be purchased from our preloved uniform sales.

We’re proud to have a wonderful team of volunteer families who run our Preloved Uniform service. They coordinate donations and sell good-quality preloved uniform at affordable prices, helping both families and the school community. All funds raised go directly back into the school.

Looking for uniform?
Preloved items are available to buy throughout the year at Patcham Partnership evenings and after-school sales. Dates and times will be shared in advance.

If you need something outside of these times, Josie from the team can be contacted. Please send your request by text or email (no WhatsApp), and a member of the team will arrange to check availability and get back to you.

The Preloved Team are volunteer parents and carers, not school staff and will do their best to help as quickly as possible.

Donations welcome!
We gratefully accept uniform donations. Please make sure items are clean, stain-free and in good condition (no holes). Donations can be dropped off at school reception.

Mobile Phones

As part of our commitment to creating a focused, respectful, and distraction-free learning environment, Patcham High School implements the Yondr system for all students in Years 7 to 11. Students who choose to bring a phone to school are required to secure their phones in a Yondr pouch upon arrival at school, ensuring they are not used during the school day. Yondr pouches are locked until the end of the day and kept by students in their bags at all times.

Equipment

It is essential that students are equipped for learning every day, you can support with this by reminding them to check it is packed each day.

All students must have a school bag of suitable size to carry their equipment.

They should bring a reading book with them each day.

Students are expected to bring the following set of equipment to school everyday:
