Key Stage 4 Transition

Year-9-Key-Stage-4-Transition-March-2026.pdf

Moving into Key Stage 4 from Year 9 into 10 is aimed to be as smooth as possible, with students continuing their broad core curriculum and focussing on their chosen additional subjects.

Current Year 9 students will be sitting GCSEs in the summer of 2028.

For the majority of students the subject choice is relatively straightforward, with a broad core curriculum plus additional ‘option’ subjects.

Students follow an ambitious, traditional ‘core’ of English, Mathematics, Science, either History or Geography and in many cases, but not all, a Modern Foreign Language.

Students can then choose two or three additional subjects, one of which should be a creative subject if not taking a Modern Language.

Inside the above booklet you will find information about all the subjects that are taught on the curriculum for the next two years. Before making any choices, please read the booklet carefully and ask our teachers if you are unsure about anything.

  • Even when you have made your choices, please remember that we cannot guarantee to meet all of your requests as some subjects will only run if there are sufficient numbers whilst other subjects may be oversubscribed.
  • Furthermore, subject combinations can be unusual and this can lead to some students unable to do all of their choices.
  • We will do our best to get everybody what they want, but we will ask you to make a reserve subject choice as well.

Please read the information in the document linked above about the broad curriculum and how to submit your choices.
