Textiles Design is a creative subject taught from Key Stage 3 through to GCSE. The Textiles design curriculum focuses on developing students' creativity, technical skills, and understanding of fabric-based design.

Students explore fabric, texture, print, and design through hands-on projects that build both practical and creative skills. From embroidery and fabric manipulation to CAD and fashion design, they develop confidence and originality. Our curriculum connects learning to the industry by using contemporary artists and designers, encouraging research, cultural awareness, and innovation. At every stage, students grow as thoughtful, skilled, and imaginative young designers. Through this hands-on and reflective approach, students gain valuable skills in craftsmanship, design thinking, and visual communication, preparing them for further education or careers in fashion, interior design, or textile arts.

Why our students love Textiles?

'Textiles creates a fun enjoyable learning environment through pops of colour and passion. It gives us the ability to create unique and beautiful work'

Design Technology is taught at Key Stage 3. Students can choose 3D design at GCSE. The DesignTechnology and 3D curriculum introduces students to the principles and practices of three-dimensional design, combining creativity with technical skills.

Students learn to conceptualize, sketch, and model objects using both traditional techniques and digital tools such as computer-aided design (CAD) software. The curriculum typically covers areas like product design, architecture and sculpture, encouraging students to solve real-world problems through innovative design solutions. Emphasis is placed on understanding form, function, materials, and sustainability. Through hands-on projects and iterative design processes, students develop critical thinking, spatial awareness, and the ability to communicate ideas visually and technically, preparing them for further study or careers in design-related fields.

Why our students love Design Technology & 3D Design…

'DT is really great. It has provided me with a different approach to other lessons  I enjoyed working with lots of different materials and learning different techniques and it let me be creative and practical at the same time.'

Food and Nutrition is taught from Key Stage 3 through to GCSE. The Food and nutrition curriculum teaches students the principles of healthy eating, food preparation, and the science behind nutrition.

It aims to develop practical cooking skills alongside an understanding of diet, health, and food safety. Students learn how to plan and prepare balanced meals, explore the nutritional needs of different groups, and examine the impact of food choices on personal and environmental health. The curriculum also covers topics such as food provenance, sustainability, and cultural influences on diet. Through a combination of theory and hands-on experience, students gain the knowledge and confidence to make informed food choices and develop lifelong healthy habits, while also preparing for further study or careers in nutrition and hospitality and catering.

Why our students love Food & Nutrition…

'Food and Nutrition is amazing! We get to make food and eat it, what could be better than that! It's also great to learn and think about things we take for granted, like which nutrients our bodies needs to work properly.'

'I've been taught about the way people eat for different reasons, like heritage or medical needs. This has broadened my horizons and has introduced me to new dishes which I now enjoy.'

'I now know how to look after myself for the rest of my life because I can cook healthy, delicious, affordable meals. I can even cook a meal for my whole family!'
