I really enjoyed studying The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde and I think I enjoyed it more due to how we were taught it. I like to hear other people’s interpretations and how they dissect a story. My English lessons help me read more challenging books.

Grace S

Grace has been a wonderful asset to an English classroom since she joined Patcham in Year 7.

Grace consistently offers ideas to class discussion, drawing on her knowledge of other topics to enrich the discourse.  Grace makes the most of all the opportunities to read, write and debate. This has led Grace to becoming an impressive independent reader.  Recently, Grace has been uncovering the world of Victorian literature after reading The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde in her English lessons. This initial springboard has seen Grace leaf through the pages of challenging, classic literature such as HG Wells’ The Time Machine and The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. Grace does not shy away from difficult literature – rather, she uses these books as a way to time travel and traverse the bounds of fantasy and reality. Whatever adventures Grace finds herself on in life after Patcham, her dedication to English means she’ll always have these stories as her committed companions.
