Year 10 student Flora Haumont wins prestigious Young Reporter competition for outstanding journalism.
We are incredibly proud to announce that Year 10 student Flora Haumont has won the Young Reporter Award — a national competition celebrating emerging talent in student journalism. Flora’s thoughtful and engaging articles were published by The Argus as part of the Young Reporter Scheme, showcasing her journalistic skill and creative voice.
Flora’s three winning pieces explored a wide range of topics:
- A look at Brighton’s transformation from fishing village to tourist hotspot
- Coverage of the city’s longest-running boot fair
- A personal exploration of the local Parkrun community and its positive impact on wellbeing
Ten other Patcham High School students were involved in the scheme and published a range of fantastic articles for The Argus over the school year.
As a winner Flora was invited to participate in a University Day at Roehampton University an an award ceremony alongside other winning students. English teacher Ms Cosgrove commented, “Flora wrote and researched a brilliant series of articles for the scheme. The English department is so proud of her talent and hard work.”
Flora’s achievement is a shining example of Patcham students reaching beyond the classroom and excelling on a national stage.
