Albion Stars Bring Joy to Patcham High
What began as a week of disappointment for 60 Patcham High students turned into a truly unforgettable moment, thanks to the Brighton & Hove Albion Foundation — and a surprise visit from two Premier League stars.
After a last-minute issue with transport meant the cancellation of a planned football trip to the Netherlands, spirits at the school were understandably low. But on Friday, students were treated to an inspiring coaching session from BHAFC Foundation coaches — and the unexpected arrival of Albion’s Joel Veltman and new signing Olivier Boscagli turned the day into something extraordinary.
The players took part in a Q&A, chatted with students, signed shirts and memorabilia, and posed for photos, creating an electric atmosphere and leaving smiles all around.
We were sorry to hear that the Patcham High trip had been cancelled, but hopefully the coaching session and our visit helped to make up for the disappointment. It was great to meet the pupils and teachers — and so many Albion fans!

The visit was a powerful reminder of the strength of the school community and the generosity of local partners. While not every plan from the original trip could be replaced, the school hopes this experience sparks further collaborations with BHAFC and other organisations, creating even more enriching opportunities in the future.
What began as a disappointing week turned into something truly special for our students. They absolutely loved the coaching session, and meeting Joel and Oli was just what they needed to end the week on a high. Both players were incredibly generous with their time — so kind, engaging, and down-to-earth. Our pupils were thrilled to ask questions, get autographs, and share their love of football. It’s a moment they’ll never forget.

The Netherlands trip is now being rescheduled for the autumn term, and in the meantime, the resilience, positivity and enthusiasm shown by students throughout the week is something the entire school can be proud of.
