2024-25 Sports Round-Up
2024/25 has been another successful year of PE, Dance and Sport at Patcham High School.
Our students have thrown themselves into the opportunities provided and across the year have represented PHS with pride in Football, Rugby, Cricket, Tennis, Basketball, Netball, Cheer, indoor and outdoor Athletics, Cross Country, Bouldering, Table Tennis, Swimming, Dance, Triathlon, Beach Volleyball and Orienteering. Throw in a Y10 Ski trip, Two Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, numerous sports leadership opportunities and the upcoming Football Tour, Sports Meal, Sports Awards, Enrichment 25 and our Sports Day it has been and continues to be a busy, but brilliant year!
Participation in our extra-curricular offer continues to be high across the year. Whether it is just making use of our PE facilities to be physically active at break or lunchtime (Swimming/Table Tennis/Cricket/Football/Basketball) or more focused skill and technique development at our after school clubs we are delighted so many of our students want to get involved. The PE department work hard to provide these opportunities but a big thank you should also go to our team of coaches, Rob Keywood, Neil Harvey, Teresa Bennet, Libby Andrew, Project Female, Tony Tregear and Anna Brookes who provide their expertise to give our students an even better experience.
In addition to the fantastic participation we have also had lots of competitive success.
Our U16 Female Table Tennis Team finished 3rd in the Engalnd Table Tennis National Competition.
We have subsequently won the England Table Tennis School of the Year award.
Our Year 7 Male Cross Country team are both Brighton and County Schools Champions.
Our Year 10 Male footballers won the Sussex County Cup.
In addition to these County and National successes we have had many victories and high placings across all sports within Brighton, Hove and Portslade school competitions. Avid followers of the PHS PE bulletin will have seen we finished 2nd across all year groups overall only to Cardinal Newman at the recent Athletics Championships. Our Swimming team also won many medals at the Swimming Championships and were always competitive in the Swimming Super League, often competing against private schools.
The vast majority of our Male and Female Football teams finished either top or in the top 3 or 4 of their respective leagues. The Year 7 male team won the Brighton Cup, our Y7 females were losing finalists. Rugby continues to go from strength to strength. Our Y10 Male team reached the semi-finals of the county cup, beaten only by National finalists Cardinal Newman! Both Y7 and Y8 were only beaten by Brighton College in their County Cup finals.
Our Cheer teams were winners in Guildford in the Spring and there are more students involved than ever, we remain the only school to offer Cheer in Brighton and Hove. Record numbers performed in our two Dance shows, for some it was the first time they will have performed on stage in front of an audience. Patcham High were also asked to close the Let's Dance performance on our allocated day at the Dome.
Throw in Basketball and Netball tournament success, and individual and team wins in Triathlon it has been a highly successful year and there will be lots to celebrate at our end of year sport awards on the 18th of July.
A big thank you to our students for their efforts to get involved and the pride they show when representing the school and of course to parents and carers for their support.
Here is to even more opportunities for all and success in 2025/26
Thank you,
PHS PE Department
