Patcham Students Cook Up Success with Free Mussels from Fish Heroes

5th Dec 2025 | News

This week, thanks to Mike Maier, our Food Tech teacher, our students took part in the Fish Heroes programme, receiving a generous delivery of free mussels for use in lessons. The initiative aims to help young people gain confidence in preparing and cooking fish, while broadening their understanding of sustainable seafood.

Students learned how to clean, prepare and cook fresh mussels, producing a range of dishes and developing valuable practical skills along the way.

Nothing went to waste, once the mussels were cooked, Laura Bissonnet, Technology & Art teacher used the cleaned shells in a creative art activity, creating beautiful paintings.

It was a memorable experience, and we look forward to taking part in more opportunities that support hands-on learning in the food curriculum.
